COMMON EDITING MISTAKES (read these and remember them as you write!)

QUOTES:
- Quotes are written as separate paragraphs. Punctuation that is part of the quote should go inside the quotation marks,

For example:

The rain was coming down hard as I walked outside into the dark.

"Who's there!?", I yelled.

There was no answer.

Notice that the exclamation point and the question mark are inside the quotes. this is because they are part of the meaning of that quote. The comma is on the outside, because it is part of the larger sentence, and not part of the meaning of the quote. The sentence with the quote is separate from the paragraph below and above.

SPELLING PROBLEMS that have come up regularly:

Of coarse = Of course
I went too the store. = I went to the store.
I Layed down = I lay down.
